It seems to be a habit of last minute news. Sorry, things as usual are moving very fast.
If you wish to be a part of this group and do not show up at the next meeting you may have to re-register.
I have studied the economic development “plans” of the US Senate, US Congress, State Assembly, County of Orange and most of Orange County’s major cities. None have a sustainable plan.
Manufacturing is the core or our economic development, not infrastructure.
Manufacturing unemployment still remains in freefall with no brakes. It is now at 30% which is 5% worse than the Great Depression. Subsidizing the cost of cars and appliances is not a sustainable job creation effort. If anything, both have socialism overtones with the rich supporting the poor.
The discussion this Thursday will be about a 100-page proposal which I have submitted to a major funding source to support efforts to assist manufacturers in creating high quality technical jobs using the Deep Web. It has a high probability of being funded.
If we are successful, the community colleges should come on line first with major professional societies next.
The Economy Corps will promote our efforts to get local governments to support our program and the efforts of manufacturers to create badly needed jobs tech jobs.
Too much attention is being paid to “green” efforts without consideration for other economic development factors.
The latest buzzword is “Sustainability”. The country’s efforts must be directed at the environment (25%), the economy (25%), society (25%), and culture (25%). This balance is vital because all are equally important. Included are sustainability of company, job, family and community.
We may have to add morality if it is not accomplished through culture.
We need followers who will lead these efforts.
I would remind you of the words of JFK when he said “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” Just as vital at this time would be “We choose to go to the moon not because it is easy but because it is difficult”. I would add that we owe something to the more than one million Americans who have died in wars to preserve this country and others.
